Old Mountain Farm Wirosa

I always tell people that you can't be a goat breeder long term if you can't take the difficult in stride along with the happy parts of the experience. On the morning of Thursday, February 25th, 2016 Wirosa succumbed to pneumonia. Over the years we have said goodbye to a few of our special goats but it never seems to get any easier. In losing "Wi" we said goodbye to one of the sweetest goat friends we could have asked for. She truly was a beautiful being inside and out. The moment I laid eyes on her, I sensed that she would turn into an exquisite doe however, she was born considerably smaller and weaker than her three siblings. As a mature adult she measured at only 18 and 3/4 inches when standing up straight and tall. So, Wi had a hard start as a newborn and by the time she was two weeks old, I felt she was fading fast despite my efforts to help her catch up to her littermates. As much as I wanted to keep her, I decided to give her to my friend Carlene Wheeler because Carlene was very knowledgeable about treating goats with herbs and natural remedies. I honestly don't think "Wi" would have lived very long if Carlene had not been willing to give her the TLC that only Carlene could give. Wi came back to us after her first freshening and lived her life out here at Old Mountain Farm. Wyl pointed out to me that hopefully, Wi is with Carlene again (Carlene passed away in June of 2014) and that Carlene is once again taking care of her for me. Goodbye "Wi", my funny little friend.
